Benson is home to two festivals rich in local heritage -- the State Singing Convention held in June and Benson Mule Days held in September.

Benson was founded in 1886 with the development of the railroad in Johnston County and is located mid-way between New York and Florida at the crossroads of I-95 and I-40. The town's population is only 3,600, however, the community is the center for the farming community, for shopping, dining and family activities...and it's been that way since 1887!
